What’s in a name?

What’s in a name?

We have often been asked where the name “Golton in the Gap” comes from….

Golton Gorge is situated at the northern end of the Grampians National Park. Following a good rain, water runs from the Golton Gorge into the Golton Creek, which runs north out of the Grampians. The Golton Creek joins the Mt William Creek about 10km north of the Western Highway, and then about 3km further on, the Mt William Creek joins the Wimmera River.

The Golton Creek runs through our farming property. Therefore, when selecting a name for our new accommodation venture in Halls Gap, we chose to connect the reference to Golton with a reference to Halls Gap, hence “Golton in the Gap” was an obvious choice for us.

Our Story

Our Story

Golton in the Gap is an architecturally designed home in the heart of Halls Gap, located in the Grampians region of Western Victoria, run by husband and wife team, Daryl and Roslyn Hill.

It was over 20 years ago that Daryl had a dream to have a holiday house in Halls Gap, a 45 minute drive from our farm. Over the years we have spent much time with our family and friends in Halls Gap and the Grampians National Park, where we enjoy great food, award winning wineries, and the reward of stunning scenery when out bush walking.

Having searched for a number of years for a suitable property, we finally were rewarded with an opportunity to purchase a block of land which met one of our key criteria, that of being a short walking distance from the centre of Halls Gap. With a block of land secured, we set about designing a modern home to meet our needs, and the needs of travellers to the Grampians region. The building project went very smoothly, with TKL Builders from Stawell and many other local trades and businesses supporting and proving materials and furnishings for the project.

The home was completed in 2016, with the first guests welcomed just prior to Christmas 2016. To design, build, furnish and decorate this home has been an exciting and immensely proud time for us. Finally, to see the finished project and to then begin welcoming guests has been extremely rewarding. We now look forward to a new chapter, where visitors from far and wide will share in the unfolding story of Golton in the Gap.
